The Vontobel Group will in future offer transaction bank services to other banks in Switzerland and in Liechtenstein. These sourcing services under the name VONSYS Vontobel Solutions for Your Sourcing will include securities execution, settlement and administration. Vontobel is thus addressing a growing need of many banks to outsource a significant part of their securities processes so as to benefit from advantages in terms of quality and costs. Vontobel is already successfully providing these services for Raiffeisen Switzerland. To further expand its range of sourcing services, the Vontobel Group is entering into a strategic IT partnership with T-Systems Schweiz AG, under which Vontobel will continue to cover the actual banking processes (execution and custody) while T-Systems will be responsible for project implementation, the running of the IT infrastructure and application management. As specialists, the two partners bring their own respective core competencies to the range of insourcing services, to the benefit of their clients.
Increasing complexity due to ever shorter innovation cycles, changes in the regulatory environment, growing product diversity, a lack of opportunities for differentiation and the increasing focus on core competencies are prompting banks to fundamentally rethink their vertical integration depth. In this regard, those parts of the value chain with clear economies of scale in securities execution, settlement and administration in particular offer significant advantages for possible outsourcing.

Vontobel already has well-founded experience in providing transaction bank services. Back in autumn 2005, Raiffeisen Switzerland outsourced execution and global custody to Vontobel. At the beginning of October 2006, Vontobel also took over client custody for Raiffeisen Switzerland. In terms of the level of operations that are outsourced, the combined execution, global custody and client custody services from a single source cover the most important, most complex and most resource-intensive areas of securities settlement and securities administration. At present, there is no other cooperation agreement of this depth and scale in the securities business in the Swiss banking market − particularly in terms of the number of client portfolios, transactions and securities positions involved.
